Upcomming Changes to Dhaka-Aricha Highway

Highway Photo SnapshotCommunications Minister Obaidul Quader Friday said 22 vulnerable turning points on the Dhaka-Aricha highway will be made risk-free within three months through reconstructing divider, reports BSS.

“The highway will be made four-lane within a short time and the work has already started to this effect,” the minister told journalists at Ghior upazila in Manikganj district after visiting the highway.

Terming the Dhaka-Aricha highway a death trap, Quader said it is one of the most risky highways.

Quader directed the officials concerned to remove billboards, chemical drums, wooden logs and construction materials from the roadside areas.

Earlier in the morning, the minister inaugurated the weight control station at Bathuly, Dhamrai on the highway to restrict plying of overweight vehicles.

He asked the construction firm to restrict plying of the vehicles carrying more than 15 tonnes of goods on the highway.

Local lawmakers Benjir Ahmed, Zahid Maleque Swapan, Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) Aminul Islam Laskar, RHD executive engineer of Manikganj Sabuj Uddin Khan, chairman of Safe Road Movement film actor Ilyas Kanchan, district AL president Golam Mohiuddin, vice-president Abdus Salam and general secretary Gazi Kamrul Huda, among others, were present during the visit.
